Folklore is an inseparable part of our Indian culture. These stories have been passed down through generations, told and heard by one another, and yet, even today, they feel as fresh and timeless as ever. Each story carries deep-rooted human values that come to the forefront, making them more than just entertainment.
Now, all this reminiscence is necessary because of a recent Malayalam film 'Bramayugam'.
'Bramayugam' is a critically as well as commercially acclaimed film and is undoubtedly one of the best Malaylam films of recent times. 'Bramayugam' is an experience that oscillates between truth and imagination.
You could call it a thriller, a mystery, or even a tale of a frozen moment in time. But fundamentally, 'Bramayugam' is the story of three people trapped in the web of time. This story dates back to the seventeenth century. Hence, the societal structures, caste prejudices are reflected in the narrative. But at its core lies the story of a landlord of a bygone era, his diligent servant, and a poor man seeking refuge in their mysterious house. As they search for hidden secrets within the secretive house, the changing relationships among these three, and the folklore that binds them, summarize the essence of the story.
The entire film is depicted in the backdrop of the black and white tone, which adds another layer to the mystery. The film grabs your attention from the first frame. Mammootty, Arjun Ashokan, and Siddharth deliver outstanding performances throughout the film. The music of the film is also beautifully woven into the narrative. The production values are also extremely high.
In short, for those who crave something different than the usual, "Bramayugam" is a must-watch.
